Talk: ‘In Conversation’ event with Clare Freestone of National Portrait Gallery

In Conversation and exhibition tour with Clare Freestone, Associate Curator of Photographs, National Portrait Gallery. In association with Picture the Poet exhibition.

Join us for this critical conversation exploring the National Portrait Gallery’s photographic collections including the Picture the Poet exhibition.

Clare will lead a tour of the exhibition Picture the Poet from 4.45-5.30pm, followed by an NEPN in conversation from 6 – 7.30pm.

Clare Freestone’s work at the NPG involves working with the breadth of the Photographic Collection comprising 250,000 items and with the varied subjects the photographs depict from the 1840s to the present day. Some of the recent displays she has curated include Marilyn Monroe: A British Love AffairThe Bloomsbury Poet & The Cambridge Photographer: Julian Bell & Lettice Ramsey, with Peter Stansky, Famous in the Fifties: Photographs by Daniel Farson and Private Eye: Photographs by Lewis Morley (2011-12). She is responsible, with colleagues, for making photographic acquisitions for the Collection.

Picture the Poet is an exhibition of high quality photographs of living poets touring to six regional venues.
The exhibition project has been developed by the National Portrait Gallery working in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust and Apples and Snakes to build a targeted learning and participation programme at each regional venue.
