Opportunity: Commission Opportunity

Posted on: 2 February 2011

NEPN is offering a series of seed/development commissioning opportunities for early/mid-career photographic artists to develop their professional practice, supported by NEPN and its regional partners.

The first of these to be announced is with the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers.

NEIMME has one of the largest mining libraries worldwide and its archives include a large photographic collection, geological and geographic maps and surveys and engineering reports.

We are calling for proposals from artists who are particularly interested to develop their practice in relation to historical and social contexts.   We are particularly interested in the use of the archive, illuminating or re-animating the history of mining in the region and in new technological approaches to this, bringing old materials and mediums into a creative dialogue with digital media.

Value
Fees of £1800 are available for the selected practitioner, plus a materials budget of £400.

Application Process

Applicants should submit a CV and a short proposal (of 1000 words) of how you would approach this commission, together with digital images of their recent work.    Digital images should be  jpegs and should be 72dpi to a maximum of 12×10 inches (30x25cm).  Applications should be sent to Amanda Ritson, NEPN, University of Sunderland, Ashburne House, Ryhope Road, Sunderland SR2 7EF or emailed to amanda@northeastphoto.net.
